Using & Calibrating Beacons

A guide on how to activate Mero beacons, replace their batteries, and calibrate them to ensure accurate location tracking.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Beacons are small devices carried by cleaning staff that communicate with base stations to track their location. Proper activation and calibration are essential for the system to work correctly.

1. Activating the Beacon

Before a beacon can be used, its battery must be activated.

  1. Locate the small, colored plastic tab on the beacon.

  2. Firmly pull the tab straight out of the device.

The beacon is now active and will begin broadcasting a signal. It can be attached to a keychain, lanyard, or cleaning cart for easy carrying.

For information on adding a Beacon to a Cleaner, please see the following article

2. Replacing the Beacon Battery

Beacons are powered by a long-lasting coin cell battery that will eventually need to be replaced.

  1. Get the Right Battery: The beacon uses one CR2032 coin cell battery.

  2. Open the Casing: Locate the small slit on the side of the beacon casing. Carefully insert a small flathead screwdriver or a similar tool into the slit and gently pry the casing open.

  3. Swap the Battery: Remove the old battery and insert the new one, ensuring the positive (+) side is facing up.

  4. Close the Casing: Snap the two halves of the casing firmly back together.

3. The Calibration Process

Calibration should only be performed if directed by Mero support.

Calibration is the process of teaching the Mero system the physical boundaries of each monitored area. This one-time process ensures that when a beacon is detected by a certain base station, the system reports the correct location.

Follow these steps for each area that has a base station:

  1. Start with an active beacon: Make sure the beacon's battery tab has been pulled or a new battery is installed.

  2. Enter the Area: With the beacon on you, walk into the room or area where a base station is installed.

  3. Note the Time: Write down the exact time you entered the area.

  4. Walk the Perimeter: For the next 5 minutes, continuously walk around the entire area, making sure to visit each corner and walk along all the walls. This helps the system map the full extent of the space.

  5. Repeat: Repeat steps 2-4 for every other room or area where a base station is installed.

Important: During this process, be sure to document which beacon (if they are labeled) is being used for calibration, along with the times you enter each area. Please forward this information to Mero support to complete the calibration process.
